2012 toyota prius c review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Prius c is not a yaris with a different engine, nor just a shortened prius. Or compact.  the 2012 prius c delivers the fuel economy and low emissions of eco-oriented hybrids like the bigger prius in an easier to manage size and substantially lower price point. To wit, prius c is more than 19 inches shorter than a prius, 500 pounds lighter, at least $5,000 less, and it rates 53 miles per gallon on the epa's city cycle. The airy cabin has interesting textures and textiles, and standard equipment on the least-expensive version includes automatic climate control and bluetooth phone book and streaming audio. Upper level trims have connectivity on par with $100,000 luxury sedans.  a sophisticated combination of gasoline engine, electric motors, big and small batteries, variable-speed transmission, controllers and coolers powers the prius c at economy-car acceleration and excellent economy. Options include 16-inch alloy wheels with low-profile tires and a moonroof.  safety features on all prius c models include dual front, dual front-side, dual front-seat cushion, front and rear side-curtain and driver-knee airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, vsc electronic stability control, traction control, brake assist, smart stop technology, tire-pressure monitors, and a proximity notification system for pedestrians and cyclists. A rearview camera is not available, however. walkarounda conventional hatchback shape defines the prius c. Prius c will be as quickly recognized a toyota as a prius. Like other cars in this class, many could easily confuse it with three or more competitors were the badges removed.  across the front a character line curls in from the lower edges, rising over the grilles like a bulldogs's upper lip with the double-ellipse toyota logo forming a small nose. Pyramid-like outer corners house fog lights on top models and the projector headlamps use a detent on the lower edge to avoid a too-often seen plain triangle.  in profile the front door is the largest single aspect and the relationship between door cutouts and roofline is the dominant feature. Prius c mixes the door shape of the regular prius and its high point at the middle pillar, with a taller roofline reminiscent of the prius v to better meld into the hatchback tail. That pinched rear door corner might be an issue but taller individuals will be exercising care entering anyway.  every model of the c we examined has signal repeaters in the outside mirrors, a plus in tight spaces or where sunlight might obscure the front signal. These are mounted on the lower outer edge and are the widest point of the car, but they cannot be seen from the driver's seat; be mindful trying to navigate a drive-up window or narrow opening between garage pillars and other cars.  at the rear the bodywork above the mid-section angles rearward, surrounding a large shiny section covered in clear plastic with one big red reflector on it. From some angles and certain colors the body looks like it leans backward a la renault megane, and the arches that carry over the wheels and around the rear resemble a bustle back or harley cruiser fender. It is at once the most distinctive element and the most awkward.  the rear lights employ led for brake lights, conventional bulbs for taillights, and amber bulbs behind a clear lens for signals. With circles and triangles and parallelograms in the various elements there's no theme but the brake lights do garner better reaction from inattentive drivers behind.  the prius c three may be optioned with alloy wheels that look and resist rusting better than the standard steel wheels. Any flat tire will go in the well but the cargo floor won't be flat. interiorif the outside is conventional the prius c cabin is a little more interesting. Fabric upholstery is never too hot or cold to sit on, and on most models the driver's seat adjusts for height. Note, however, that no model has adjustable height shoulder belt anchors and a tall passenger was not comfortable with the belt across their upper arm.  three-across adults in back get less space than domestic air economy-class passengers, so limit it to two adults or three kids. The seat cushion is unusually long because of the batteries beneath it, which improves comfort for adults but might be uncomfortable for kids who can't hang their legs off the front of it. The rear seat folds to increase cargo area, and on any but the base model, it has a 60/40 split for flexibility.  materials are mostly plastic with a few padded soft-touch panels, all expected in this class. Initially the styling lines on the dashboard looked like scratches, though they do mirror some of the lines in the optional softex upholstery that weighs about half what traditional leather weighs. Eco and ev mode switches are adjacent the handbrake aft of the shift lever.  instrumentation is in a narrow display from the top of the wheel to the right edge of the center vents. It has a digital speedometer, fuel level, a couple of indicator lights and nothing else. To the right is the multi-information display that provides fuel and energy data in numerous ways, and on upper trims, momentarily overlays which steering wheel button has been pressed.  below the display are the center vents, the radio or navigation screens, and below that in the lateral teardrop, climate controls. Upper trims have the start/stop pushbutton left of this, while lower levels have a molded circle that very obviously shows this model is missing something. A power point hides below the climate panel, and the usb/aux inputs are to the right adjacent a tray above the glovebox. The glovebox is fairly deep.  bluetooth and steering wheel controls for it are standard on every prius c, while the top two models get entune, toyota's telematics system. Entune comes with bing, pandora, stocks, sports, traffic, and weather, and will add iheartradio, movietick. 2009 toyota rav4 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The rav4 excels at convenience and ease of use. Getting in and out of the driver's seat is easy. It can move lots of people or lots of gear on a moment's notice. And it comes standard with a long list of safety equipment. Ordered with the optional v6, the rav4 is a regular hot rod, scooting around with 269 horsepower. We prefer the five-passenger configuration.  2009 toyota rav4 models get new options including a reverse monitor and touch-screen navigation, and all models come with integrated satellite radio. Also new for 2009 are active headrests for the front seats. 2009 rav4 limited models come with a new smart entry feature that unlocks the doors for anyone carrying the key fob. lineupthe 2009 toyota rav4 comes in three trim levels: base 21,500), sport 23,200) and limited 24,490). The v6 is upgraded with p225/65r17 tires on styled steel wheels. All models come with a full-size spare tire.  options at the base level include a third-row seat 840-940); six-cd changer 260); a selection of 17-inch wheels, both styled steel 120) and aluminum 440-560); a roof rack with crossbars 220); rear privacy glass 310); a cargo cover 140); daytime running lights 40); and a towing package for the v6 160) that includes a heavy-duty radiator fan coupling, transmission oil cooler, and 150-amp alternator. The tow package increases the rav4's pulling capacity from 2,000 to 3,500 pounds.  the rav4 sport adds a handling-tuned suspension and p235/55r18 tires on alloy wheels, plus fog lamps, rear privacy glass, color-keyed trim outside, and unique charcoal fabric inside. Also standard for 2009 is a new rear spoiler. Options expand to include a power tilt-and-slide glass sunroof 900), navigation 1,550), leather upholstery with eight-way power driver's seat 1,930), a back-up monitor 475), and auto on/off headlights 70). An extra value package 470) combines the sunroof with a roof rack, daytime running lights, and six-cd changer. But the third-row seat is not offered on the sport. The new sport appearance package 577), available only on sport models with the v6 and 4wd, takes the spare wheel off the rear door and substitutes run-flat tires. It also adds power heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a stainless steel exhaust tip, and additional interior brightwork.  the limited model upgrades with dual-zone automatic climate control, six-cd changer, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, leather-wrapped shift knob, cargo net and tonneau cover, heated and foldable power outside mirrors with new integrated turn signals, roof rails, engine immobilizer, the new smart entry system, and other amenities. Outside, the limited is distinguished by a unique grille and front bumper, p225/65r17 tires on six-spoke alloy wheels, and a full hard-shell spare tire cover. Options include the third-row seat 700-800), eight-way power driver's seat without leather 440), and a premium jbl stereo with bluetooth phone connectivity 490), plus most of the options from the sport level, mostly for the same prices. Two extra value packages bundle the jbl stereo, bluetooth, sunroof, power adjustable heated seats, and daytime running lamps; one adds navigation, too 2,110), the other doesn't 1,360)  safety features on all rav4s include dual-stage frontal airbags, side-impact airbags, and side curtain airbags. New for 2009, active headrests on the driver and front passenger seats move up and forward in certain rear-end collisions to help reduce the distance between the occupant's head and the headrest. Front seatbelts incorporate pre-tensioners and force limiters. Also standard are latch child safety seat anchors, antilock brakes (abs) with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), electronic stability control (vsc), traction control (trac), and a tire pressure monitor. walkaroundthe rav4 looks like other contemporary toyotas, featuring an aerodynamically efficient ovoid profile strategically relieved by sharp character lines. A coefficient of drag (cd) of 0. 33 is among the best in its segment and a major factor in minimizing wind noise and maximizing fuel economy.  the rav4's truck-like front end is tautly composed. Visually, the fenders are separate elements from the engine bay, a situation emphasized by a tight rectangular grille that seems to sit comfortably atop the wider bumper slits below. Headlights are compact and focused.  grille, bumpers, and fog light surrounds are all new for 2009. Most noticeable are the new, vertical brake scoops, lined with black ribs, that bite into the bumper beneath the headlights, where the fog lights used to be. (fog lights nestle into these scoops on sport models.) more subtle is the way the main grille now integrates better with the cooling slit just beneath it, while the formerly full-width slit beneath that has been replaced by three smaller slots.  limiteds have a look all their own, with a single, deep, trapezoidal grille opening bolding bisected by a body-color horizontal bar with a large, chrome toyota world-t badge at its center. A pseudo-skid plate wraps up from the bottom, leaving no room for additional lower air intakes. Tubular nacelles supporting the fog lights replace the brake scoops of base and sport models. None of these changes, fortunately, has affected the rav4's low coefficient of drag.  alloy wheels have five spokes on sport, six on limited. A wide track gives the rav4 a solid stance visually, while resisting rollovers in emergency maneuvers.  the side view is oblong, a mix of boxy and oval, the better to accommodate that third-row seat. The fat, triangular c-pillar with the taillight at its base reminds us of the subaru tribeca, a larger, seven-passenger suv priced a notch or two above the rav4. An understated indent runs along the bottom of the rav4's doors, softening the visual impression of bulk. The taillights are new for 2009, as is the bumper itself, but the changes here are more subtle than at the front. Taillights are positioned high on the rear fenders. The spare tire bolts into a recess offset to the right in the swing-gate, and doesn't dip below the bumper line. The rear license plate, sunk into the lower left side of the swing-gate below the handle, visually balances the spare. The sport model's spoiler hangs conspicuously off the top edge of the roof.  the new sport appearance package for 2009 eliminates the spare entirely, and centers the license plate up high beneath a bright metal strip that's just beneath another world-t badge that is just under the window. A bulge low down on the tailgate fills in the step in the standard bumper when the tailgate is closed. A handle on the left side still betrays the gate's swing-open design, but in spite of this the overall look with the sport appearance package is remarkably more car-like, more station wagon than suv. interiorinside, the 2009 rav4 is as good as ever, which is to say functional if a bit eccentric in style.  placement of the gauges will be familiar to anyone who has owned a previous rav4. The position and function of the controls populating the center stack is virtually the same as it has always been, which means very good; that also applies to the arrangement of the hand brake and the shift lever. The current dash is sharply split by a horizontal gash running the width of the car. About the only plus we found in this garish feature is a bi-level glove box, with an upper bin covered by a retracting lid and a lower bin fitted with a traditional, bottom-hinged cover.  materials are high quality. The standard seat fabric has been upgraded for 2009. Fit and finish is toyota grade, which means excellent. All three trim levels share the same motif, with contrasting but complementary colors and brushed metallic trim elements around the stereo and climate controls, surrounding the shift gate and swooping around the door handles. The standard side-curtain airbags still allow a passenger assist grip, which folds down.

2011 toyota tundra review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Serious capability in a full-size pickup. introductionthe toyota tundra is a serious full-size pickup, whether measured by dimensions, hauling capacity or towing capacity. Since this iteration was introduced as a 2007 model it's been refined, and for 2011, tundra's base v6 engine gets an overhaul. Also, all 2011 toyota tundra models come standard with trailer sway control. The 2011 tundra lineup has been simplified, as well.  we've found the tundra to be a stable, comfortable truck for towing a 20-foot enclosed car trailer over long distances. Seating is available for three, five or six. Three bed lengths and three wheelbases are available.  trim levels range from basic tundra grade to luxurious limited models with leather upholstery, and from the lowest end to the highest is a price differential of around 2:1. High-end models are available with gps navigation and a rearview camera, or a rear-seat entertainment system with a 9-inch lcd screen. An available deck rail system in the bed anchors moveable tie-down cleats rated at 220 pounds each.  the new 4. 0-liter v6 engine for 2011 nets 270 horsepower, 278 pound-feet of torque and epa ratings of 16/20 mpg city/highway (representing increases of 34, 12, and 1/1 respectively over 2010). The v6 is available only with two-wheel-drive versions of the regular or double cab; the v6 weighs at least 300 pounds less than the v8s for better mileage and longer component life. It can't tow as much as the v8s but its 1620-pound payload is more than many tundra v8s can carry. The v6 comes with a 5-speed automatic. We think the v6 is a good choice for work trucks.  both v8 engines and their 6-speed transmission remain unchanged for 2011. The 4. 6-liter dohc v8 engine is rated at 310 horsepower and 327 pound-feet of torque, with epa fuel-economy ratings of 15/20 mpg city/highway (14/19 with 4wd). As with the 5. 7-liter engine, the 4. 6-liter has dual variable valve timing with intelligence (vvt-i), which optimizes valve timing for the best combination of performance, economy and emissions.  the 5. 7-liter v8 engine is rated at 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The dohc 5. 7-liter is an excellent choice for towing trailers, which explains why it is standard on more models for 2011. Here's an outline:  the base tundra regular cab 4x2 23,935) is powered by the 4. 0-liter v6 with a 5-speed automatic transmission and the 6 1/2-foot standard-length bed. The regular cab is the workhorse edition tundra, with a fabric-upholstered, 40/20/40-split bench seat, vinyl floor covering, column shift and manual-crank windows. The standard wheels are 18-inch steel. Regular cab options include a low-cost work truck package with non-chrome outside trim; a sliding rear window; daytime running and fog lamps; power heated and/or towing mirrors; towing package; backup monitor in mirror; bucket seats anmd cruise control.  the double cab tundra grade 4x2 26,275) comes with the 4. 0-liter v6 and standard bed. The tundra double cab features rear side doors like on an suv, and seats for as many as six. The 4. 6-liter v8, 5. 7-liter v8, and long bed are optional on double cab 4x2 models. The tundra grade equipment basically matches the regular cab, adding carpet in place of the vinyl flooring, a tachometer and outside temperature indicator. Standard equipment includes heated, leather-trimmed front buckets, climate control, jbl audio with 12 speakers, power sliding rear glass, tilt/telescoping streering wheel, electroluminescent gauges, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass and programmable garage-door opener and front and rear park-assist.  the crewmax tundra grade 29,245) and 4x4 32,295) feature full-size rear side doors and more rear-cab space, with a sliding, fold-flat rear bench seat. They come standard with the 4. 6-liter v8, but are offered only with a 5. 5-foot short bed. The 5. 7-liter v8 is optional. A crewmax limited 4x2 39,395) and 4x4 42,455) are also available; the 5. 7 v-8 is standard. Standard equipment on each trim level basically matches that on the double cab models, though the crewmax adds a vertical sliding power rear window.  options include navigation system with back-up camera, rear-seat dvd player, cold-weather features, off-road packages, and 20-inch aluminum wheels. There are few factory-installed stand-alone options, but dozens of dealer-installed accessories, such as bed liners.  trd's rock warrior package 4,560 on double cab) adds color-keyed body trim on the front and a flat-black bumper on the back, fog lamps, black cloth manual seats, bilstein shock absorbers, and 17-inch forged aluminum wheels with bfgoodrich all-terrains for traction, ride and rim protection. The trd offroad package for a double cab is $6,265; on a limited it could be less than $100.  the trd sport package adds color-coordinated trim including bumpers, grille, mirrors and door handles, fog lamps, manual cloth bucket seats, and 20-inch five-spoke machined-face alloy wheels. The first iteration, called t100, was about the size of a dodge dakota, and it taught toyota that in america a larger truck needs a v8 engine. The second generation, and the first with the tundra badge, taught toyota that 7/8 is not full-size. The current generation, launched as a 2007 model, shows that toyota has learned those lessons well.  tundra is big and burly by design. Its large grille, boldly framed in black or chrome, pulls lines from the deeply sculpted hood into the front end. Some like the rounded lines and others call them inflated. In any case, it has presence, and styling is meant to generate discussion. We like it.  in side view, the tundra has understated fender flares tied together by a gentle indent along the lower door panels. Body proportions comfortably accommodate the three bed lengths and wheelbases. Interestingly, gaps between body panels are deliberately wider than contemporary robotic assembly might allow. Toyota's stylists decided that slightly wider gaps better suggest the rugged first impression they wanted the tundra to make.  some of the details on the tundra's body add interest and function. Deep recesses underneath make the beefy door handles easy to grip with gloves on. There are no stand-out styling cues here. The tailgate is damped, making lowering and raising it easier and quieter.  wheels vary by model, but they're all truckish in appearance. The standard 18-inch, drilled steel discs on base tundras are actually quite attractive in their basic, functional look and styled steel wheels are available. The aluminum alloy wheels on the limited models feature thick, monolithic spokes. The optional 20-inch alloys satisfy the current trend towa.

2011 toyota sienna review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, models range from sporty to luxurious. introductionminivans have always been superior as people movers. They're easier to park and drive than suvs, have a low step-in height for easy access, plus comfortable seating and cushy ride characteristics.  the 2011 toyota sienna, now in its fifth generation, has been designed for those reasons since the beginning. But for 2011, as transportation needs change, so does the sienna.  the all-new 2011 sienna is still very much a transportation solution for moving up to eight people. But it is now more versatile, with more flexible interior configurations, and available in a broader range of models. There are models aimed at practical transportation, models driven by luxury tastes, and even a sport model, the se, that drives and handles more like a sports sedan.  interior seating arrangements have been completely redesigned and can now be re-arranged more easily to carry passengers, haul cargo, or any mix of both.  visually, the 2011 sienna looks less like a minivan than previous generations, with lower, longer lines, and a wider stance. Toyota designers have altered the profile and stance to make the sienna more appealing. The 2011 sienna is based on the same platform as the prior generation, with the same wheelbase, but it has more interior room.  the 2011 sienna is available in five grades, with seating configurations for seven or eight. Front-wheel drive is standard. It gets a couple miles to the gallon better fuel economy and works nearly as well for everyday driving. The sienna se handles quite well and will be appreciated by more aggressive drivers. The se sits lower, on a sport-tuned suspension and steering system for quicker feedback and better handling. At the other end of the spectrum is the limited model, which glides along nice and easy, and it has steering assist that makes it easier to park.  the toyota sienna is made in america, designed in california, developed at toyota's technical center in ann arbor, michigan, and assembled in indiana. Sienna is also available with a v6 25,500).  sienna le 25,345) upgrades with eight-way adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, third-row sunshade, six-speaker audio, xm satellite radio, steering wheel controls for audio and telephone, bluetooth for hands-free cell phone operation, compass and outside temperature displays, dual power sliding doors, homelink garage door opener. Sienna le v6 28,900) is similarly equipped. Optional all-wheel drive enhances safety in adverse conditions. The pre-collision system is optional with dynamic radar cruise control. Vehicle dynamics integrated management system (vdim), hill assist control (hac), safety connect, and front and rear sonar are optional or included on premium models. All of this stuff is a very good idea.  all prices are manufacturer's suggested retail prices (msrp), which may change without notice at any time. Prices do not include destination charges. walkaroundthe new 2011 toyota sienna doesn't look exactly like a minivan, because a number of classic minivan visual cues have been eliminated. It has a wider stance, with broader flared shoulders, and a more compelling, contemporary front face with sophisticated, highly angular headlamps. The lights have projector lamps and halogen high beams combined in a compact, slender design.  from the side, the 2011 sienna looks much sleeker overall, and less boxy in appearance than previously. The track for the sliding rear doors is completely concealed, so the rear doors look like they belong on a sedan or crossover suv. The rear windows are shaped in a tapered trapezoid and inclined inward like a sedan, again contradicting the standard boxy minivan look.  the rear has been designed with a low, wide bumper and a roof spoiler that hides the rear wiper, for a stronger, cleaner appearance. Led tail and stop lamps are used, which illuminate more quickly and consume less power.  overall, the exterior looks cleaner and sleeker, and it is. Aerodynamic work, including underbody covers to help manage airflow, has reduced the coefficient of drag to 0. 306.  there are quite a few differences from model to model. Unite 17-, 18-, and 19-inch wheels are used depending on the model and options. Se, xle and limited models have integrated front fog lamps, and limited has hid headlamps as an option. The se has dark chrome accents around the lights and smoked headlight covers.  the sienna se gets special styling cues. The front has a more aggressive appearance. Side skirting visually lowers the vehicle and smoked headlights and taillights make a distinctive statement. Aerodynamic sculpting hugs the standard 19-inch alloy wheels. The se sits lower, on a sport-tuned suspension. interiorthe 2011 sienna interior is distinctly modernistic. From the driver and passenger perspective, the cockpit uses flowing lines and round controls to achieve a sense of unified, integrated design. Prominently visible at the base of the center stack is a shape, something like a tadpole, that tapers laterally toward the passenger, to create the feeling that there is more room to share. Instead, the design suggests shared space and control areas, in a freshly contemporary atmosphere.  design aside, the center stack contains the usual controls, with the message center at the top, the audio system just below, the climate control system below that, and storage and convenience features, such as cupholders and 12-volt plugs, at the lowest level. The shifter is located on the dash, closest to the driver, freeing center console space for storage.  there are three instrument designs, but the standard analog system uses bright blue numbering with red needles. In all three designs, a large speedometer and tach are combined with fuel and temperature gauges. The automatic transmission range and odometer are displayed on the lcd in the center of the meter, and an eco-drive light has been added to indicate economical driving. The wheel tilts and telescopes.  the front seats are passenger-car comfortable. They are six-way adjustable on the base sienna model, and power eight-way adjustable on all other models, with memory available for the driver on limited models. The sienna seats now travel about an inch farther, forward and back, compared to the previous generation, and have longer, wider cushions and adjustable armrests. Leather-trimmed and heated seats are standard on the xle and limited.  second-row comfort was obviously a design priority. The second-row seats are mounted on very long sliders, 25. 6 inches.
